Ellijay Trout Fishing
Ellijay sits in Gilmer County, home to the Cartecay River drainage and some of North Georgia's most consistent freestone trout water. Wild Water Trout Club's private fishery on Tickanetley Creek is in this same drainage — managed private water in the county's own mountain watershed.

The Cartecay River Region
Ellijay is centered in the Cartecay River watershed, one of North Georgia's better-known trout streams. The Cartecay and its tributaries drain the surrounding ridges of the Blue Ridge divide, collecting cold, clear water from the mountain terrain above the valley. The Cartecay holds a mix of stocked and wild trout, and its public sections attract consistent pressure from local and Atlanta-area anglers.
Tickanetley Creek — Wild Water Trout Club's private water — is a tributary of the Coosawattee River system in Gilmer County. Like the Cartecay, it draws from the same mountain elevation and geology that produce cold, fishable water year-round. The difference is the access: Tickanetley is private, managed, and protected from the public pressure that accumulates on the Cartecay's accessible sections.
For anglers based in or near Ellijay, Wild Water's private water on Tickanetley Creek represents an upgrade in access to the same character of mountain trout fishing that makes the region appealing.
Tickanetley Creek — Private Water in Gilmer County
In the Same County
Wild Water's 3.5 miles of private water on Tickanetley Creek runs through the same Gilmer County terrain that makes Ellijay's fishing attractive. The creek shares the area's characteristic cold-water geology — shaded hollows, consistent gradient, and spring inputs that maintain trout-supportive temperatures across all seasons.
Wild and Managed
Tickanetley Creek holds a self-sustaining population of wild brown trout. The club supplements the fishery with approximately 1,200 lbs of stocked fish annually, distributed throughout the creek in a pattern designed to maintain quality fishing across all sections without concentrating pressure in one area.

How Access Works
Two Days Per Month
Members receive two scheduled fishing days per month. Days are coordinated through the club's reservation system to manage rod pressure and ensure the creek rests between visits.
Guided Orientation First
All new members complete a mandatory guided orientation trip before independent access. This covers access points, creek etiquette, catch-and-release protocol, and seasonal patterns specific to Tickanetley Creek.
Guest Policy
Members may bring up to five guests per outing at a $100 rod fee per guest. All guest outings require a club guide in attendance. Members may not bring unguided guests onto the private water.
Private water in your own backyard.
Wild Water Trout Club offers Ellijay and Gilmer County anglers something the Cartecay can't — private, managed water with no public pressure. Membership is limited.
